He was born on January 4, 1939, in the city of Rashid in the Buhaira Governorate.

Teaching assistant at the Department of English at Cairo University.
Instructor at the English Department at Cairo University in 1975.
Member of the Writers' Union (founding member).
Assistant Professor in 1981, then Professor in 1986, then Head of the English Department at Cairo University, in 1993.
Expert in the Arabic Language Academy, 1996.
Editor-in-chief of the theater magazine, Sutur magazine.
Supervisor of the Contemporary Arabic Literature Series in English, of which 55 books have been published.
